Day eight: bird watching and late night talks

10 oktober 2023 - Andoany, Madagaskar

When I woke up in the morning, it was still raining (with my shoes outside again :') ) and the rooster was screaming. He usually does it at midnight, but I guess he switched to 5AM. This morning it was my turn to water the nursery, but this didn't need to happen, because of the rain. It's nice that now it keeps raining at night. It means we have water, the plants have water, but we're not bothered by the rain.

After breakfast and everything we got ready to do a BPC (bird point count). We went to five different places (grave beach, kingfisher point ankarara be, dove point and ....

To do bird counts. This was pretty nice and fun (and ofcourse hot). We were on the way for about 2,5 hours before returning with a pineapple. We then had to do data entry, with a nice fresh pineapple. This took quite some time, with excel and the prospect of doing eco bricks. Me, K and L finished it, while the others started eco bricks, which we would join soon after. (Quite difficult cutting sandy stuff with terrible scissors hahaha)

After that and deep cleansing our hands again, we played some yahtzee before lunch. Then after lunch we had some free time, after which it was study time. During this free time however, someone spotted some whales. So all of us naturally ran towards points to look at the sea. It was amazing to see the mother and baby off in the distance, so we stood and watched for a while. After this it was actually study time.

After this study time, which I used to mostly confirm that I know all the gecko's, chameleons and birds :), we had about half an hour off until our Malagasy lesson. During this half an hour I had a nice conversation with my roommate El and another girl M about conservation, the project, etc. It was very nice.

The Malagasy lesson was great! Today Boris, camp manager I guess, gave it with Émile. Boris is very nice and happy and made it very fun. We went through the basics again and practiced some and also learned by singing. It was very fun!! (Btw katakata=banana :) )

This was our last real program thing, so now free time! I started writing down the Malagasy lesson, but was soon joined by S and later A and E, and we started chatting. It was very nice and a lot of fun. I love them, they're great and very sweet and open and loving :) After chatting for quite some time we decided to watch the sunset on a rock near the beach together. It was a beautiful moment, sitting together, watching the beautiful sunset with some good music. Moments like these♡

After a while it was almost dinner time, so we had to get back. After dinner it was firsf board time to hear the plans for the next day. Then I did some things by myself, took a shower and then joined some games of golf (?). It's a card game, pretty fun. After 3 games, I decided to head down to main house and chatted a bit with E and I. Again: very nice :) Then S got there, but had left her peanut butter on the rock she sat at, so we went to get it together. We just sat down at the rock and talked for a pretty long time. Just talking, looking at the stars, listening to the sea, and listening to music. This moment was again a moment of gold. It was very nice.

When it started raining, we went back up, walked quietly behind main house, and talked with H and T for a bit. Then it was finally bed time. It was a good day.
