Day five: washing clothes and Eric's

8 oktober 2023 - Antsiranana, Madagaskar

The first thing we naturally had to do, was walk back to camp. The walk back was way easier, as it was downhill and not that hot now.

Back at camp it was our mostly free day, because of the night hike. I ate some breakfast and decided to wash my clothes. This was a pretty lengthy process, but it was actually pretty nice and calming. Just some washing and some music. For the clothes to dry, I put them on some rocks, which worked wonders! It was dry so quickly!!

After that I decided to go snorkling, as the visibility seemed pretty good and the tide was right. My 3 french friends decided to join and it was amazing! There was so much coral and so many fish and we saw a sea turtle. It was fantastic. We got out because we were unsure of the time and didn't want to be late for lunch, but it was only 9.30! Our internal clock is completely off with these long days. But this gave us the opportunity to grab our camera's and dive (or snorkel) back in!

After lunch we had a camp clean, which ended up being pretty much nothing for us, because the kitchen was already clean and that is basically all the forest group has to do. After that we had a camp meeting. Which was all sitting together looking back on the week, adressing some points, choosing a volunteer and staff member of the week to start the weekend.

Then it was time to get ready to get to Ampang (the village). We all go there to get some food and drinks. I decided to go early and see if I could charge my stuff, but this didn't go as planned. The boat was too full and literally started to sink. It was very chaotic and funny. So I grabbed the next boat.

In Ampang everything was also very chaotic as we all went to the same place and there was not enough staff, space or anything there. But I ended up getting fresh pineapple juice, which was very nice. The others were getting alcoholic drinks, which most of them are made with local rum etc. This can make it veery strong.

After that we went to Eric's (a guy who take care of a lot of things for the projects and basically owns a LOT) to get some food and drinks.

On the way back (in the dark) I saw some bioluminescense in the water. I think plankton. It was so amazing and magical!!!
