Day three: Agroforest and snacks

4 oktober 2023 - Antsiranana, Madagaskar

So today we went on a hike to the Agroforest in Kely village. We all took a plant from the nursery (in total we took 23) and some tools with us. It was a long and extremely hot hike, we were all sweating like crazy. It was really nice though! We passed through some small villages, which was nice to see. The living, like basically everywhere here, is quite primitive and theres chickens walking around everywhere. On the way back there was music playing everywhere, so that was nice. The hike was beautiful. The view was utterly amazing!

When we arrived at the agroforest some of us planted the saplings and some of us made the signs to put with them using machetes. I did both :)

When we were done we all got a piece of sugar cane to eat. I never had it before, but it was really nice and fun to eat! You basically get a stick to chomp on like a panda. You take a bite, chew on it and then spit out the remains. Sounds weird, but it's great. When we finished we started hiking back and our team leader (?) climbed in a big mango tree and threw some mangoes down for us. Then after a while we stopped again at the village and we got some tamarind ice lollies. They were great and veeery refreshing!

Back at camp we had lunch and then a study session after. I started learning the gecko's and chameleons today! A woman named Sarah, who's almost leaving, coached me and some others through it, which was very nice and helpful. I'm excited to learn more!

After that we were supposed to plant some seeds, but it was vague as always. So we all waited around, knowing nothing and eventually decided to go for a swim. Me and 3 of my roommated decided to snorkel, but sadly the water was extremely murky, so that didn't work.

At dinner we planned our weekend trip, which I'm very excited for :)
